Job Summary
The Logistics Clerk supports shipping, transportation, and inventory operations. This role is responsible for processing shipping documentation, tracking freight, scheduling carriers, maintaining records, and assisting with logistics tasks to ensure efficient workflow and timely delivery of products.
Key Responsibilities
- Schedule carriers for pickup and delivery of customer orders.
- Generate, verify, and manage Bills of Lading and other necessary shipping documents.
- Track the status of shipments in transit and update relevant internal teams (sales, customer service, operations).
- Audit freight bills and carrier invoices for accuracy.
- Respond to inquiries from customers and internal departments about delivery schedules, shipping requirements, and unloading logistics.
- Classify products / SKUs in accordance with appropriate shipping classifications (e.g., National Motor Freight Classification).
- Route return freight and manage related documentation.
- Maintain accurate records in multiple software systems (inventory, shipping, internal tracking) and ensure data integrity.
- File claims with carriers if shipments are delayed, damaged, or lost.
- Assist other departments with information about shipping requirements and cost as needed.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional education or certifications in logistics, supply chain, or related field is a plus.
- Minimum of 1 year clerical or shipping/receiving/logistics experience.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (especially Excel), and ability to learn internal systems/software.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and to work with minimal supervision.
- Physical ability to handle some lifting, moving of freight or materials, and possibly loading/unloading depending on the work. (Depending on the position this may be required.)
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with freight classification (e.g., NMFC), domestic and/or international shipping.
- Prior work in a warehouse or manufacturing environment.
- Experience with multiple software systems for inventory or transportation management.
- Forklift or material-handling equipment certification (if job involves more physical/material handling).
