SAW OPERATOR
WAGE: $18-$22/HOUR
LOCATION: Cedar Rapids, IA
A saw operator works in manufacturing (often HVAC metal fabrication) cutting raw materials to precise sizes using industrial saws.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up and operate power saws / band saws to cut metal materials
- Choose and install correct blades and cutting tools
- Measure materials accurately using:
- Tape measures
- Calipers / gauges
- Read blueprints, cut sheets, or work orders
- Inspect finished pieces to ensure they meet specs
- Load/unload materials (sometimes using forklifts or cranes)
- Maintain equipment and keep work area safe and clean
Skills & Requirements
- Basic math and measurement skills
- Ability to read a tape measure precisely
- Mechanical aptitude
- Ability to lift ~40–50 lbs and stand long shifts
- Manufacturing or machine experience (preferred but not always required)
