Position Summary
The Yard Jockey is responsible for safely and efficiently moving trailers, materials, and products between the production plant, warehouse, and designated dock areas. This position operates straight trucks, tractors, forklifts, and pallet jacks while maintaining safe work practices and supporting the overall flow of plant and warehouse operations. This position is available on 1st and 2nd shifts. The schedule may vary based on departmental needs, and overtime and weekend work may be required.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely move materials and trailers between production docks, warehouse docks, and designated plant locations.
- Operate straight trucks, tractors, forklifts, high-reach equipment, and pallet jacks as required.
- Coordinate with supervisors, material handlers, and forklift operators to ensure the timely and accurate movement of trailers and materials.
- Assist with loading, unloading, pallet sorting, and other material-handling activities as directed.
- Inspect vehicles and equipment and check fuel and oil levels.
- Report equipment malfunctions, maintenance needs, safety concerns, or other issues to the appropriate supervisor.
- Complete required documentation, including vehicle/trailer inspection reports, driver tracking documentation, and food safety records.
- Follow all company safety procedures and required accident-reporting procedures.
- Maintain compliance with food safety, quality, sanitation, and workplace safety requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Valid Class A CDL.
- Current forklift certification/license.
- 3–6 months of commercial driving experience.
- Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to identify equipment issues.
- Ability to safely operate and maneuver trucks, tractors, forklifts, and pallet jacks.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow established procedures.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work independently while coordinating effectively with other departments.
- Ability to work in a physically demanding manufacturing and warehouse environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- 1–3 years of tractor-trailer driving experience.
- 3–6 months of forklift experience.
- Previous experience in a food manufacturing, warehouse, distribution, or production environment.
- Experience with trailer movement and yard operations.
- Familiarity with food safety and manufacturing procedures.
