Fire Alarm Helper
Position Overview
The Fire Alarm Helper assists a licensed technician with the installation, inspection, maintenance, and service of fire alarm systems. This role works under direct supervision
and as part of a two-person or multi-person team
at all times.
Work Hours:
Monday-Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM
Work Locations
- Approximately 80% of work occurs in established, occupied commercial or industrial buildings for service, inspection, or upgrades.
- Approximately 20%
of work occurs in new construction buildings
during the final stage of construction, when:
- Exterior structure is complete
- Walls, roof, and flooring are installed
- Electrical and water utilities are operational
- Parking lots and site access are completed
Primary Duties
- Assist technician with installing, servicing, and testing fire alarm devices and wiring
- Carry tools and materials and support equipment setup
- Help mount devices and pull low-voltage cable under supervision
- Maintain organized and safe work areas
- Follow company safety procedures and site rules
- Work cooperatively as part of a team on all job assignments
Work Environment & Physical Activity
- Indoor work primarily within finished buildings
- May include walking, standing, bending, climbing ladders, and lifting tools/materials
- Occasional exposure to construction environments during final-stage new builds
- No independent operation of heavy machinery or company vehicles
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds occasionally and 25–30 pounds frequently
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday
Physical Requirements
Ability to bend, kneel, crouch, and reach overhead
as needed to assist with installations
- Ability to climb ladders (typically 6– 8 ft step ladders, occasionally extension ladders) while assisting a technician
- Ability to use hands continuously for handling tools, wires, and small components (good manual dexterity required)
- Ability to work in tight or confined spaces such as utility rooms, above ceilings, or equipment closets
- Ability to work at heights when assisting with device mounting or wiring
- Ability to load/unload tools and materials from company vehicle with team assistance
- Ability to work indoors in finished buildings and occasionally in final-stage construction environments
- Ability to tolerate moderate noise levels, dust, and varying indoor temperatures
- Must be able to travel between job sites as a passenger in a company vehicle
