GRINDER
HOURS: 530AM- 3:30P MONDAY THRU THURS (POTENTIAL OVERTIME FRIDAY 5-6 HOURS)
LOCATION: GALENA, IL
WAGE: $17/HR
Position Summary
The Grinder is responsible for finishing cast metal products by removing excess material, smoothing surfaces, and preparing parts for inspection, machining, or shipment. This role ensures that all castings meet Nohr Casting’s quality and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate grinding equipment such as angle grinders, pedestal grinders, and belt grinders.
- Remove gates, risers, fins, and excess metal from castings.
- Smooth and blend surfaces to meet quality specifications.
- Inspect castings for surface defects and report issues to supervisors.
- Follow work orders, blueprints, and production schedules.
- Maintain tools and equipment in safe working condition.
- Keep work area clean and organized according to 5S standards.
- Follow all safety policies and wear required PPE (gloves, face shield, hearing protection, etc.).
- Assist with material handling and movement of castings as needed.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Previous foundry, manufacturing, or metal finishing experience preferred.
- Ability to safely operate grinding tools and equipment.
- Ability to read basic work instructions and blueprints.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.
