Sedona Staffing is seeking a
Financial Operations Consultant
for a
local non-for-profit.
This role
will work closely with the Executive Director and Financial Administrator to review financial processes, provide technical oversight, strengthen internal controls, support audit readiness, and improve organizational capacity through training, documentation, and process improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Review current accounting workflows, procedures, and documentation.
- Evaluate internal controls and segregation of duties.
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, accuracy, and consistency.
- Recommend process improvements and risk mitigation strategies.
- Review reconciliations, financial reports, and selected accounting transactions for accuracy and completeness.
- Evaluate supporting documentation for compliance with organizational procedures and accounting standards.
- Identify errors, omissions, or areas of concern and provide recommendations for corrective action.
- Assist staff in resolving discrepancies and implementing preventative measures.
- Provide technical guidance on accounting treatment, reporting requirements, and financial recordkeeping practices.
- Support monthly and quarterly financial review processes.
- Assist with complex reconciliations and financial analysis as needed.
- Serve as a mentor and resource to the Financial Administrator.
- Provide coaching related to accounting procedures, reconciliations, reporting, and compliance requirements.
- Assist in developing tools, checklists, and workflows that support successful performance.
- Promote knowledge transfer and long-term organizational capacity.
- Assist with audit preparation and supporting schedules.
- Review documentation practices and record retention procedures.
- Support compliance with nonprofit and private foundation reporting requirements.
- Recommend improvements to strengthen audit readiness and regulatory compliance.
- Develop written procedures for recurring financial tasks.
- Create reference materials and checklists.
- Identify opportunities for cross-training and knowledge transfer.
- Provide recommendations to support long-term operational sustainability.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting , Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
- CPA designation preferred but not required.
- Minimum five years of nonprofit accounting, financial management, auditing, consulting, or controller-level experience.
- Experience with nonprofit organizations required.
- Experience with private foundations preferred.
- Demonstrated experience reviewing accounting work, reconciliations, financial statements, and internal controls.
- Ability to identify accounting errors, provide corrective guidance, and mentor staff in best practices.
- Experience supporting audits, financial reviews, or controller-level functions preferred.
- Strong knowledge of internal controls, audit preparation, and financial reporting.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
