Medical Assistant
for
a local
medical practice in Moline, IL.
The
Triage Nurse is responsible for telephone triage, parent education, and providing professional nursing assessments. This role prioritizes patient needs based on urgency and supports high
‑
quality patient care through accurate documentation, compliance, and maintaining a safe clinical environment. The Triage Nurse provides clinical assistance to all healthcare providers in accordance with established standards, practices, and protocols. Additional tasks may be assigned by the Nurse Manager or Practice Manager.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate patient symptoms and determine the appropriate appointment type and level of care needed. Utilize established protocols to make treatment recommendations.
- Respond to and route incoming telephone calls.
- Provide parent/guardian education and counseling under the supervision of a physician or nurse practitioner.
- Accurately document medical information, including vitals, tests, and examination results.
- Contact other offices or hospitals to obtain medical reports/results or retrieve them from appropriate platforms.
- Input lab data into the computer, retrieve lab results, and communicate results to parents/guardians.
- Schedule appointments for sick visits, well visits, consults, follow ‑ ups, and other appointment types.
- Schedule referrals to other physician offices or facilities; complete pre ‑ certification or prior authorization for referrals, medications, and medical equipment.
- Complete forms such as shot records, work permits, physical forms, daycare forms, and medication forms in a timely manner.
- Call or send prescription refills to pharmacies promptly.
- Fill in for floor nurses when needed.
- Perform general nursing care, including patient/parent education, obtaining history and vitals, and administering prescribed medications, vaccines, and treatments.
- Assist with equipment preparation and support physicians during examinations, treatments, and testing.
- Observe, record, and report patient conditions and reactions to medications and treatments.
- Maintain timely patient flow.
- Greet patients, prepare them for examination , and accurately gather and record patient history.
- Instruct patients on sample and test collection.
- Prepare exam rooms, restock supplies, and gather necessary equipment for procedures.
- Attend required meetings and participate in committees as requested.
- Provide training to clinical and administrative staff as needed.
- Participate in professional development activities and maintain professional affiliations.
- Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
- Provide excellent customer service.
- Perform related duties as needed to support business operations.
- Conduct lab quality controls within COLA standards.
- Perform laboratory testing, accurately enter results, and troubleshoot lab procedures.
- Complete additional duties as assigned to meet operational needs.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Degree from an accredited school of practical nursing.
- Current, unrestricted State Registered Nurse license and CPR certification.
- Ability to maintain required Illinois CEUs for RN licensure.
- Nursing experience preferred.
- Knowledge of practical nursing principles and skills necessary for patient care and treatment.
- Knowledge of examination, diagnostic, and treatment room procedures.
- Understanding of medications and their effects on patients.
- Skill in administering a variety of treatments and medications as directed.
- Proficiency in using medical equipment for examinations, diagnostics, and treatments.
- Ability to maintain accurate records and prepare written reports.
- Valid driver’s license.
