Heavy Equipment Operator Lead

• Lead daily work for a team of 3–5 heavy equipment operators, assign tasks, establish priorities, and monitor progress.
• Provide hands-on coaching in safe equipment operation, material handling, yard organization, and work quality.
• Coordinate with the Logistics Manager, Shipping, and Production teams to meet staging and outbound shipment needs.
• Communicate staffing, material, equipment, and safety concerns to management; help resolve routine workflow issues.

• Personally operate a 30,000-pound-capacity forklift and other authorized equipment to move beams, columns, fabricated assemblies, and oversized steel materials.
• Evaluate load weight, dimensions, center of gravity, equipment capacity, and travel paths before lifting or transporting material.
• Oversee safe stacking, yard storage, inventory organization, and staging for scheduled flatbed shipments.
• Verify material identification, piece marks, shipping documents, and quantities; report discrepancies or damaged components.
• Reinforce equipment inspections, PPE requirements, spotter use, and safe practices in active equipment and pedestrian areas.

• 5+ years of hands-on experience operating heavy forklifts or comparable industrial heavy equipment.
• Strong experience with high-capacity forklifts; experience operating equipment rated up to 30,000 pounds preferred.
• Ability to direct a small crew, communicate clearly, manage priorities, and lead by example; prior lead experience preferred.
• Working knowledge of forklift load limits, stability, weight distribution, and safe movement of oversized materials.
• High school diploma or equivalent; ability to successfully complete required equipment training and authorization.

• Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–4:00 PM; occasional overtime, extended shifts, or weekends based on operating needs.
• Primarily outdoor manufacturing yard; exposure to weather, industrial noise, uneven surfaces, and moving equipment.
• Use required PPE; frequently climb on and off equipment, walk through yard areas, and lift up to 50 pounds.
