2ND SHIFT MACHINE OPERATOR
DAY SHIFT TRAINING SCHEDULE: 2:45AM to 3:15PM, Monday-Wednesday (train on days up to 3 months)
REGULAR 2ND SHIFT SCHEDULE 2:45PM to 3:15AM, Monday-Thursday (occasional shortened Thursday shift)
LOCATION: Dyersville, IA
WAGE: $19-$21/hour
Job Summary: The 2nd Machine Operator is responsible for operating packaging lines for bulk, bag, and/or pillow pack products, ensuring products move efficiently through equipment, into the appropriate packaging materials, and through palletizing processes. This role may include forklift operation duties as needed and you will also work on a rotating assignment schedule for the packaging line.
Responsibilities:
- Operate and monitor bulk packaging machinery to ensure proper filling levels and accurate weights for tote boxes and super sacks.
- Set up, run, and maintain bagging equipment for poly bags and paper bags, ensuring correct product weights, proper sealing, and accurate pallet stacking.
- Operate and monitor pillow packaging lines by transferring cereal bags from conveyor systems into designated cases while verifying correct bag counts per case.
- Inspect packaged product for quality standards, including identifying rejected or underweight cereal bags, verifying correct code dates, and ensuring all bags are properly sealed.
- Ensure cereal bags are properly positioned and packed within cases to maintain product integrity during shipping.
- Replenish case erectors with boxes as needed to maintain continuous line operation.
- Complete production paperwork accurately, including recording quantities and labeling finished pallets.
- Perform basic machine support tasks such as loading tape into tape machines and maintaining smooth equipment operation.
- Operate forklifts and pallet jacks to move pallets and materials safely throughout the production area.
- Inspect pallets and packaging materials to ensure they meet quality and safety standards before use.
- Maintain clean and organized work areas by sweeping and removing debris to support safe production operations.
- Assist operators and lead personnel with additional production and machine operation duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Ability to identify incorrect code dates, damaged boxes, defective packaging, and improperly sealed cereal bags.
- Previous experience operating manufacturing or packaging equipment in a fast-paced production environment.
- Ability to safely operate forklifts and pallet jacks to transport materials and finished product.
- Ability to stand for extended periods throughout the shift, excluding scheduled breaks and lunch periods.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with team members and production staff.
- Willingness to work overtime/flexible schedule as production demands require.
- Ability to follow safety procedures, quality standards, and production requirements consistently.
